First-aid kit essentials for babies & toddlers

First-aid kit essentials for babies & toddlers

Every mom needs a first-aid kit—several first-aid kits, actually. Pre-packed first-aid kits are a great starting point for your first-aid kit. However, it’s unlikely that you will have everything you need in one product. The First-aid kid you buy might not include your favourite hair brush or something that you are really used to. Especially as your baby grows up, you realise what you need in your first-aid kit and what not. Of course everything is very individual, it all depends on what kind of lifestyle you live on, but I came up with the list that I find most helpful in my first-aid kit.

  • Thermometer
  • Calpol
  • Nurofen
  • Nasal spray
  • Gas relief drops ( I personally use Infacol)
  • Teething toy
  • Antiseptic cream for cuts and scrapes
  • Antiseptic wipes
  • A pair of sharp scissors for cutting plasters and tape to size
  • A pair of child scissors with no sharp ends for cutting nails
  • Sticky plasters in different sizes and shapes
  • Adhesive tape
  • Finger bandage
  • Sterile gauze
  • Disposable sterile gloves
  • Natural hair brush
  • Nasal spray
  • Teething toy
  • Baby toothbrush
  • Lollipop – You know why! for those moments when you child is crying a lot or does not want to have the medication

Who will I need to contact in an emergency?

The most important items in your family’s first-aid kit may actually be names and numbers. You can securely tape, glue, or sew the following contact information inside your kit:

  • Family doctor
  • Your local hospital
  • Your two closest neighbours or friends. You may need to call them if you need them to care for your other child or children, or for a lift to the hospital

Again, please note that this is only my opinion and what I personally use and like to have first available in my hands in case of emergency. Always consult your doctor or GP for more information.

I hope to read your comments about your first-aid kid essentials 🙂
