Piercings are things that have been around for as long as most of us can remember, and whilst some are done for reasons that are more culturally or even religiously significant to them, most are done for reasons of personal choice, and although many people do have sometimes quite strong opinions on things like body piercings and tattoos, there’s really no right or wrong, and it’s something only you can decide for yourself as to whether it’s something you want to do.

In this post, we’ve listed out some of the positive and negative aspects of body piercings, so you can make the decision hopefully a bit easier than you would have done before.

Positive Aspects Of Piercings:

They allow you to express yourself:

Piercings are often used as a way of expression, and although some people can perhaps go overboard, they definitely do allow you to stand out and get more creative than you maybe would be able to without a piercing.

They can make great accessories:

Just like all jewellery, those who have piercings have a wide variety of options to choose from when it comes to changing up their studs, rings, and bars. Most jewellery stores will stock a wide range of piercing accessories in a variety of colors and styles, so if you fancy a new pair of earrings, or even switching up your style from a ring to a bar for your septum piercing or belly button piercing that will match a new outfit, you’ll certainly not be strapped for choice.

They’re always in fashion:

Piercings are things that are just always around, and no matter what people’s personal style preference is or what the current fashion trends, there’s always a slice of the market that is tailored to those who like piercings, so they never really seem to go out of fashion.

Negative Aspects Of Piercings:

There’s a risk of infection:

No matter where you get a piercing, this always carries a risk of infection, so it’s important that when getting a piercing you go to a reputable professional or jeweler who can carry it out for you. Ensuring you keep the area clean and report any signs of infection to your doctor right away are measures you can take to lower the risk or stop it getting worse.

They can be expensive:

Depending on where you get them done, piercings can be pretty pricey, and if you have more than one, or you regularly buy new accessories for them, then these aren’t going to be cheap things either – especially depending on the materials of your piercings and any stones that may be included in them.

They can get in the way of your life:

As unfortunate as it is, some people will judge you for no reason other than you having a piercing. These judgements are especially more prevalent in situations where you have visible or bold piercings on the face or body. This can affect your chances of getting certain jobs or being allowed entry into places like nightclubs, hotels, or even aboard aircrafts.

I a really scared of infections, for that reason I am not considering piercings. It’s true that if we keep the piercing place clean so there won’t be any chances of infections. The pros are great nevertheless.

I have had a belly button piercing for 15 years. I love it so much that when I see a belly button with no piercing I have the feeling that something is missing! Ahah! You listed great pros and cons! There is a risk of infection but if everyone follows all the instructions on how to take care of it especially at the beginning they should be safe 😀
