Hyaluronic Acid in Makeup

Hyaluronic acid, also known as hyaluronan, is a clear, gooey substance that is naturally produced by our bodies. The largest amounts of it are found in our skin, connective tissue and eyes. Hyaluronic acid’s main function is to retain water to keep the tissues well lubricated and moist. It has a variety of uses and one of the most common products that include this ingredient, is cosmetics and personal care products.

Hyaluronic Acid helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles retaining moisture to the skin, creating a plumping effect. When the skin is protected and hydrated, increased skin cell production can take place, as the skin isn’t busy fighting for hydration. This leads to smoother, plumper skin cells. But picking the right hyaluronic acid product is tricky, therefore, it is important to find the good products with this ingredient.

One of my favourite makeup products that contains Hyaluronic Acid is Makeup Revolution Conceal & Hydrate – Hydrating Concealer. Hyaluronic acid is an active ingredient here and it works with all skin types. It has a light texture that does not emphasise wrinkles, reduces skin blemishes and prevents skin from drying out. Thanks to HA, it offers all-day hydration for the skin. In my opini0n, this is similar to shape tape that we have all been crazy about but at the most affordable price. It blends beautifully and honestly it is the most incredible concealer I have ever used.

If you are looking for a super long-lasting and hydrating lipstick, then L’Oréal Paris Infallible Lipstick and Lip Gloss 2 in 1 is the perfect match! This is a great product which comes with two phase – a lipstick and a balm. Active ingredient here also is HA, which helps and keeps your lips hydrated. It doesn’t smudge, no need of retouching during the day and it doesn’t dry lips out either. You can apply the balm on top of the lipstick if you like the extra and natural shine. The application process is a key for using this product, you need to give it a few minutes after applying the lipstick so it can dry properly and then after you can apply the balm. My favourite colour is red so far and it is super red, just the way I love it! but I can not wait to dry nude colours of this product as well.

I have also found a great long lasting foundation which contains HA. This is Revlon Cosmetics ColorStay Long-Lasting Foundation SPF 20. It blends so well into the skin and lasts whole day. Hyaluronic acid helps to hydrate the skin while using it for a long day. It is also definitely smudge-proof and transfer-proof. It is not very full coverage, but you can apply with layers and it will look just fine, for me personally, I did not have to apply more than one layer as I do not like wearing very think foundations in summer weather, but depending on your taste, you can work with it easily. With help of SPF 20 – it also protects the skin against the harmful effects of UV radiation. As for the application, for me it works best with the sponge. It is a great product with a great price too!

Since hyaluronic acid is something our bodies already produce, it’s considered safe to be in the makeup products too and it is one of the most popular ingredients in the beauty industry. Cosmetic products with hyaluronic acid are suitable for all skin types, especially a dehydrated, dry skin, and skin that suffers from signs of ageing.

Have you tried any make up products with hyaluronic acid? I would love to read your comments about it.
